Modular Chiller Plants for Northern Virginia Data Center
In 2018, EAS engineered, fabricated, and installed eight modular 1,200-ton chiller plants for a mission-critical data center in Northern Virginia. The project was designed to accelerate delivery while maintaining the quality and coordination required for a high-performance facility.
Industry: Data Center
Duration: 12 Months
Scope: Design-Assist, Off-site Manufacturing, Installation, Commissioning
Solutions Delivered: Eight 1,200-ton Modular Chiller Plants
Manufacturing Facility: High Point, NC
Overview
EAS delivered a complete turnkey solution that included design-assist, off-site manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. By moving major mechanical assembly into our High Point, North Carolina facility, we helped reduce field coordination and streamline execution at the jobsite.
Scope of Work
EAS provided full engineering, fabrication, delivery, and installation for eight fully integrated, four-section modular chiller plants. Each plant included:
-
Dual 600-ton water-cooled chillers and integral variable speed drives
-
Factory-integrated cooling tower platforms with structural steel, piping, and major mechanical equipment assembled and tested prior to shipment
-
Complete chilled water, condenser water, and process water pumping systems integrated within each plant
-
Factory-installed plate-and-frame heat exchangers, cooling tower water treatment, filtration, expansion tanks, and air separation equipment for complete hydronic system integration
-
Architectural enclosure systems with ventilation and conditioned equipment spaces to protect critical mechanical equipment
Project Results
-
Eight factory-built modular chiller plants delivered as complete turnkey systems
-
9,600 tons of total installed cooling capacity
-
Reduced onsite installation time through off-site manufacturing
-
Improved quality through factory-controlled fabrication and testing
-
Single-source for engineering, manufacturing, delivery, and installation
This project represents EAS's long-standing expertise in delivering complex modular mechanical infrastructure for mission-critical facilities. Years before today's rapid expansion of hyperscale data centers, EAS was already leveraging offsite manufacturing to help clients reduce risk, improve quality, and accelerate project delivery.
