Overview

EAS provided a complete central utility plant for a campus expansion of a large pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina. EAS companies provided a complete package by utilizing EAS manufacturing for fabrication of the plant, EAS mechanical contracting for installation of the plant and field work, Starr Electric for the electrical scope of work and Envirotrol for controls and automation.

Project Highlights

  • 7,750 SF central utility plant was provided in 15 lower sections and 15 high hat sections and cooling tower platforms. 

  • The central utility plant was fabricated in its entirety in EAS’s High Point, NC Facility

  • The central plant provided chilled water, steam, and compressed air, critical to the manufacturing of life changing pharmaceutical process

Project Details

  • (4) 1000-ton water cooled centrifugal chillers

  • (4) 100 HP chilled water and (4) 100 HP condenser water pumps

  • (2) Two cell cooling towers sized for 4,000 tons total 

  • Cooling tower filtration system

  • Chemical treatment equipment for chilled water and steam systems

  • (4) 400 HP 4-pass wetback steam boilers providing a combined 55,200 pounds of steam per hour

  • Deaerator and surge system and blowdown separator with aftercooler

  • 12,000 GPD Reverse osmosis system

  • (3) Oil free, water cooled, variable speed air compressors with integral dryers – 150 PSI

  • (2) 1060 Gallon air receivers

  • Dual 4000 Amp Main-Tie-Main electrical switchgear to allow separate power feeds to service the central plant. 

  • Variable frequency drives, lighting, transformers and other electrical equipment

  • Complete Allen Bradley Compact Logix control system
